Richard Thomson, Going Back (way back)

Richard Thompson is one of my favorite musicians and has been for... well a really, really long time. I was a huge fan of Fairport Covention, back in the early Pleistocene Era, and Richard was already and old man, playing guitar for the group (well, he played like an old man, though he looked about 12). Now that I am old, he must be positively ancient, yet his music is no less inspiring now than it was... in the Pleistocenes. I could go on and on, but I won't because I am starting to bore myself, which bodes ill for those of you not nearly as enamored of me as me. Suffice it to say that there are no BAD Richard Thompson albums among the many hundreds he seems to have made, and I'm sure that those of you who join in idolizing this guitar hero/musical genius/songwriter non-pareil, honey-voiced funny and endlessly entertaining musical mutant have your own list of favorites that I encourage you to share. If I am permitted a completely unsolicited plug, I recommend that you check out the new RT 5-CD box set, available at http://www.free-reed.co.uk. Only the first 5,000 copies of the set include a coupon for a free 6th CD of rareties, but if you purchase the set directly from Free Reed you're guaranteed the disc, not to mention they are swell, stand-up guys. The song I have included in today's entry is not on the set, however. I don't believe it's ever been available anywhere, as it was an outtake from a studio session Richard did for a public radio station. As a winner in a charity auction I was granted access to hundreds of hours of music not played on the air and this song, "Going Back," was among the songs I collected on a disc that was made for me (and never made available otherwise). "Going Back" was written by Carol King and Gerry Goffin and was sung originally by The Byrds. Hope you like it - I will make available to download for a limited time, then off it goes.
Next time: The long lost and little known first album by Beth Orton, with William Orbit: SuperPinkyMandy

Hey, you can definitely add me. I'd love to see pictures you've taken over the years. I regret being 20, for I never got to see some shows I would have loved to shoot, like Bowie durring the Ziggy days or Van Halen circa '77.
Thanks for the comment (my first one). I'll be posting pics and tracks periodically. Some of them are pretty interesting, I think. I added you to my links list; if you decide you like the page, I'd appreciate your adding me too at some point. Thanks again.
Loved the Stones Photo and welcome to the blogging world. I snagged the Thompson tune because, get this, I don't own anything by him. Shame on me.
Well, I suppose my only response to that would have to be... D'OH!
